NYCYF events provide opportunities for Youth Funders to network, share lessons learned, explore new challenges facing New York City youth, and examine the City’s philanthropic and public response to these issues. The network also creates venues in which local funders can learn from youth programming, research, and policy experts, both locally and nationally. In addition to in-person meetings, NYCYF uses diverse vehicles including webinars, conference calls, LIST-SERVS, and policy briefs to communicate with its constituents.

The Promise of Collective Impact in NYC

The gaps in college degree attainment in New York City are stark and widen every step of the way from high school graduation to college graduation. The end result is that only 24% of Black adults and 17% of Latinx adults obtain a Bachelor’s degree or higher compared to 49% of their white counterparts.

#DegreesNYC, a cross-sector collective impact initiative involving over 50 NYC nonprofits and government agencies working on college access and success, was created in 2016 to dramatically increase the number of low-income Black and Latinx college graduates in New York City. #DegreesNYC has brought together people and resources to build a powerful movement to transform practice and policy aimed at closing the attainment gap.

Join us to learn more about #DegreesNYC’s Blueprint for Collective Action on Postsecondary Access and Success in New York City, the collective impact process that brought forth these recommendations, our breakthrough data collaborations and other projects now underway.

  • What #DegreesNYC has identified as the primary barriers to postsecondary access and success and how to address them
  • The importance of youth voice and participation in creating large-scale change in NYC
  • The urgency of collective, aligned action among philanthropy, education and nonprofit sectors to address systemic barriers
  • The critical role philanthropy can play in fostering this alignment
