NYCYF events provide opportunities for Youth Funders to network, share lessons learned, explore new challenges facing New York City youth, and examine the City’s philanthropic and public response to these issues. The network also creates venues in which local funders can learn from youth programming, research, and policy experts, both locally and nationally. In addition to in-person meetings, NYCYF uses diverse vehicles including webinars, conference calls, LIST-SERVS, and policy briefs to communicate with its constituents.

Harnessing Apps to Develop Career Pathways

December 5, 2018

Time:11:30 am - 2:00 pm

A Brown Bag Discussion

JK Rowling has said, “The internet has been a boon and a curse for teenagers.” According to Common Sense Media, teens are spending nearly nine hours a day on average using media. Given this state of affairs, how can we use technology to embolden positive change? Please join us for this brown bag discussion to hear directly from organizations that use apps to create career pathways for NYC youth.

Hear from:

Heather Weston, Director of Business Development and Strategy at Hats and Ladders

About the organization:
“We started Hats & Ladders in 2015 to help reimagine career education. Building off twenty years of developing award-winning educational games and interactive experiences, we created a mobile platform designed to motivate youth to explore, experiment with, and prepare for a wide range of career pathways.”

Clare Bertrand, JFF, Best Bet Services

About the organization:
“Best Bet Services provide youth, teachers and counselors, school districts, and community-based organizations with the tools to make stronger connections with career pathways and programs of study that align student interests and regional employment needs—what we call a Best Bet. Best Bet Services is a JFF initiative. JFF is a national non-profit that collaborates with national leaders in education, workforce development, business, technology, government and philanthropy to ensure economic advancement for all.”
